An hsv2 oral infection is out of the virus' "preferred" region, so it is typically weaker there. Most people do not become symptomatic from exposure to hsv2 oral and to hsv1 genital. Additionally, most people get hsv1 as a child and thus already have antibodies which can suppress symptoms of hsv2. These reasons in part are why over 80% of those with hsv don't know they have it.

Hello Counselor, please clarify. In my above question, you said 'she could catch the virus orally'. Then you said 'However, HSV-2 does not spread orally'. I am confused! So does that mean she could BUT SHE WILL NOT get HSV-2 if she performs oral sex on a male with HSV-2 genital?
